So if you have a chess piece that is 2.16&#8221; tall, the lens will project that figure at 2.16\u201d onto the sensor. Since the subject is 2.16\u201d tall and it is\u00a0 projected onto the sensor at 2.16\u201d it has a ratio of 1\u201d:1\u201d. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The other key to understanding macro is the minimum focal distance. The minimum focal distance (or MFD) is the shortest distance at which a lens can focus on a subject.
